Since the upcoming mission is an uncrewed flight, this time around Orion will fly sans space explorers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\"><strong>The Orion spacecraft is comprised of three main parts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"chevrons\" style=\"margin-top: 0px;\">\n<li>A <strong>Launch Abort System<\/strong> which sits above the crew capsule and is designed to pull the crew to safety should something go wrong during launch.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Crew Module<\/strong> which will serve to transport and house a crew of four.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Service Module<\/strong> which will support the Crew Module, providing propulsion, life support systems, power support, temperature control, and cargo storage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67825\" src=\"https:\/\/spacecenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/File-_Current_2009_Cev_design.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"756\" height=\"566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spacecenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/File-_Current_2009_Cev_design.jpg 756w, https:\/\/spacecenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/File-_Current_2009_Cev_design-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 756px) 100vw, 756px\" \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Launching the spacecraft<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Orion will launch atop NASA&#8217;s Space Launch System (SLS), the most powerful rocket NASA has ever built, from the space agency&#8217;s new spaceport at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The spacecraft will journey farther than any human spacecraft has gone before, traveling thousands of miles further than the Moon, for a three-week mission.<\/p>\n<p>While Orion has undergone extensive testing, its true test will come with the launch of Artemis I.
